On the way home tonight I saw a woman on the train.
She was carrying a cup of free trade StarbucksTMcoffee, carrying a stylish tote bag which had the slogan “Love is Enough” across it in 5 inch high letters, and wearing visibly ‘ethical shoes’.
Upon leaving the train, someone approached her (getting onto the train) and also selling the Big issue. They weren’t being aggressive, just going about their business. She could have stepped past him, but no, she shouldered past him in such a way that he dropped the magazine he was holding, which she then stepped on, on the way past him.
I guess the image of herself she wanted to project with her clothes and coffee choices, isn’t who she’s really comfortable being.
